So I've been rummaging the ranks of a few lesser-known microbrews lately and I've come across a few that have left me quite wanting in various respects. Just wondering if I've hit upon some bum batches or if the few in question never have achieved more than this level of mediocrity. So does anyone have opinions on:
Nimbus Pale
Peak Organic Pale
Grand Teton's Sweetgrass IPA

Re: Disappointments
Tue, March 4, 2008 - 8:05 PMHi, Ken. I do not have any experience with the brews you listed. But, it occurs to me that the good and the bad of microbreweries can be inconsistency. As a homebrewer, I know there are all sorts of variables that can affect the taste of your beer. I love microbreweries because they do experiment a lot more than the big commercial breweries and work to improve their recipes and their brews. Sometimes, that causes a little variation from season to season or batch to batch. I strongly prefer homebrew but there are a lot of very good microbrews out there. And I am willing to put up with a little inconsistency to drink good beer.

Re: Disappointments
Wed, March 5, 2008 - 11:54 PMWell Pam, I can testify to the Nimbus Pale, this beer can only be called pedestrian at best, which goes for the rest of Nimbus' bottling line. Only the Oatmeal Stout I can put down. Haven't been to the brewery yet. But never fear, Nimbus isn't the only AZ brew that taste like spit.
Cave Creek Chili Beer- I think this is a lager, with a chili pepper in the bottle. More of a novelty.
Sonoran- they've stopped bottling. Thank yer lucky stars
Electric Dave's-
Also not in Az-
Steamworks- has anyone else thought this brewery leans a little towards the lame?
That's all I can think up now, any other bland ones y'all have encountered? -

Re: Disappointments
Thu, March 6, 2008 - 6:07 PMThanks for the input guys.
I don't expect to sample any of the other offerings from these three unless I do get some really positive responses from someone. Kinda why I posted it here. I'd hate to write off a brewer based on one random incident but I also don't want to waste good money and beer drinking time repeating a mistake.
Funny that three bogus brews would all follow me home at the same time. Kinda takes the wind out of my adventure-beer sails. Safer to go with what you know sometimes. -

Well, maybe it's time to toss up a "what to check out" thread. My first nominee - Rouge Brew (OR). Especially their HazelnutBrown. Also their Chocolate Stout and Juniper Pale. Uber dank brews. ; ). -
