Worst Beers in the World

There are good beers...
There are great beers...

And then there are THE WORST BEERS IN THE WORLD...

* "Goldstar", the Israeli version of Bud-Light, ranks among the worst beers in ther world. If you've ever tasted brown tap water (like when the plumbing is off), that's pretty much what it tastes like.

Beer Snobs: feel free to contribute your pick of the worst beers!

i want to say "Lone Star"... but it's more for the slogan "National Beer of Texas" than it's Micheloeb (sic) style taste....

    National Beer????

Does no one else see the fallicy in that statement?

But if you're in Texas, only have three bucks and need a sixer...

I have an answer for this. Texas was in a war (with the US or Mexico, I don't remember) for it's independance, but it lost. But, being Texas, I think they skip over that last little bit. So they consider themselves to at one time have been an independant nation and thus have a national beer.

They are also the only state that can ceceed from the union at any time for any reason.

      Those crazy Texans.

Raineer beer (from Raineer, WA), not only a sour taste but the top of my arms broke out in a weird rash!

Blitz (from ?), something like $5-8 a half-rack, not sure if it's made anymore, had it back in 1990.

Sadly being open minded to all beers, I have had some really awful ones, but here are some that stand out.

McBeer in Austria - Yes they sell beer in the McDonalds there, and it is god awful.

This Icelandic beer I had in a gold can with viking on it, was terrible!

And pretty much any beer they had in kegs at frat parties back in college, they went for quantity not quality, so it was usually Genny Cream Ale, Hamms, Carling Black Label, etc.

Strange. i drank Carling Black Label in South Africa, because it was about the only decent beer we could get. And coming from a Belgian, that is a compliment ;)
Though i seem to remember they told my not to drink it in the States. Probably they just use the same name for an entirely different beer in SA.

Bud, Coors, Labatt...all taste like fizzy piss and need a higher alcohol content to make it into my home. I second the Old E too - only ever shoplifted by teenagers who don't know any better.

I once had a 20 cent pint in Romania called "Golden Brau" that was pretty awful. But for 20cents....

Years ago, Black Label was actually pretty good. My dad had it a lot in the 1960s, and once on a road trip as a kid (yes, underage drinking,) he bought some and I had a bit, and it was okay. The Black Label sold now is NOT the same thing. I'm guessing that the stuff you had in South Africa was the old Black Label and not the new one.

I think the worst beer I ever had was umm Fort Pitt Light. think it was in the area of $8 a case or something. I was a freshman in college though and though the beast was good.

don't even know if that brewery is still around....
heres to hoping they are not.

I'd have to say that any kind of "malt liquor" is up there with the worst beers. These include but are not limited to:

    Colt 45
    Extra Old Stock
Carling Black Label Supreme (The Black Label is no treat either, but the Supreme.... supremely terrible)
    TNT
    Bullmax

man, just talking about them makes my stomach turn
I know people that drink 2 or 3 40oz bottles of this shit in a night BY CHOICE! this is what punk rock can do to a person.

Regal Select has to take the cake. Nasty as fuck! Only sold by the case, I can only hope they stopped making that crap. The slogan was "One of America's two great beers" What the fuck? They never bothered telling ya what the other one was!

I like Fischer. I've also had very bad batches of it too.

I think that it's hard to find fresh. Trader Joe's sells it here and it tastes like SH*T. The same labeled bottle sold at a cigar shop/liquor store down the street tastes completly different.

I amazes me some of the selectionsfor worst beer. I can understand not liking Anchor Steam as it does tend to have a touch of saline like notes. I can also understand some people not like Old Crustacean as it is a very hoppy and a bit smokey for the Barleywine style.
The reason most people do not like them is not becuase they are the worst in the world but becuase they are used to lighter beers. So calling them the worst in the world is a bit unfair. Go back to them when you have broadend your horizons and tried a few more hop driven beers.

As for cool cult, that will go down in history as one of the worst ideas for a beer and the most racist concept ever for a beer.

I have very broad horizons - ive tasted many hundreds of different beers and im not turned off by hops-
I can drink stone ruination all night (albeit - a short night)
what turned me off of old crustacean is the funk - it tastes like a locker room floor - like dirty gym socks that have trod upon a locker room floor (for years).
We have to admit that -(just like the "best beers" lists out there) this is completely subjective. and i find old crusty to be FOUL.

Everyone has different tastes that have nothing to do with their expierience as a beer drinker. It all comes down to the 'buds, man. It's okay for you to not share their opinion.

I know nothing of various gym sock and floor flavors. I am not saying that it is the best beer. I understand that taste is subjective. What I am trying to point out is that this thread is best served when the beers which lack any artisanal skill or qualities are brought to light. There is a big difference between a beer you do not like and one that lacks merrit.
Bud does not have any merrit, its popularity is due to a marketing plan, while those who like Old Crusty, do so because it has something they like in a strong ale or it is quite different than most other brews.
Sorry for the broden you horizons comment. That came out stronger than I intended it to.

I'd drink a case of Lone Star or Lucky Lager before swilling down Anchor Steam.

Don't know what they do to the supposedly good ingredients they put in, don't want to know.

    It just makes me gag.

Also include on the list any beer with fruit bottled with it. IE cranberry, rasberry, etc

    Lets see
The worst beers I can think of...
Well I know when I went to Thailand, I tryed to drink a couple of the beers there (I can't remember the namess). Now I don't know if this is true, but people kept telling me, there was inboming fluid in them.
I would say Bud ,Heinigen (sorry my spelling is not the always the best), coors, paps blue ribbin. It bothers me that people drink papas blue ribbon beer, because they think it's cool

There seem to be a couple of angles to this thread.

Price is a qualifier among several folks. Cheap seems to elevate standing.

Environment is as well. On a really hot day, I'll enjoy a cool to cold lager or pilsner far more than on most any other day, when I'll drink the darkest, thickest stout I can find. With spicy or ethnic food, ditto. Somehow I'm not comfortable eating Asian or Mexican food with stouts, I'll have a Singha/Tsingtao/Kingfisher/Sapporo/Dos Equis/Tecate, depending on the cuisine.

But, just talking about taste, there have been only a couple of times when I have thought "Yee Gods, this is VILE!" My candidates therefore are:

    Anchor Steam (many years ago)
Rolling Rock (also many years ago)
a Belgian called, I think, Gouldenbrouw (sorry, my Flemish is a little rusty)
This last one was at a beer tasting. I had just sampled some really good dark beers prior to it. When I got it in my mouth, I literally ran for the door and spit it into a bush!
