Hey everyone!
Not sure how "new" this particular Beer is...but, it is new to me! :)
It's called "Shock Top" and it is a very nice White Belgian style wheat beer.....the Label has a picture of an Orange with a smile and a Mohawk wearing a Pair of Sunglasses.
I am typically not a fan of Wheat Beers...but, this one is pretty good and I recommend giving it a try!
You can find it in the Supermarket...or at least you should be able to....I tried it at a friend's bar and then discovered it in the supermarket the other day and since South FLorida is what I like to call a "Micro brew" or "Unique Beer" Desert (I have found it hard to find diverse and tasty imported beers from around the World...unless I go out of my way to an ABC Liquors) you should be able to find it locally too.
It is best served cold and with a nice slice/wedge of Orange

Re: Shock Top
Tue, August 12, 2008 - 9:18 PMWell, besides the fact that the OP reads like an advertisement... Shock Top is an attempt at a Belgian White by Anheuser-Busch. Granted, they haven't done half bad by their organic stuff (Stone Mill, Wild Hop, etc), but I wasn't terribly impressed by this one.
I've had better, and I've had worse... I wouldn't call it a "beer snob" worthy beer though. For witbiers, I usually go for Hoegaarden, Blue Moon, or Blanche de Chambly... anyone have other witbier favorites to add? My 6-pack taste of shock top came across like AB's usual attempts at good beer... decent, but missing something. Definitely a witbier, but was just kind of... meh. Like the flavor was flat or hollow - no depth. Hard to describe, but I wan't entirely stoked.
Any other drinkers have their impressions to add? -

Wed, August 13, 2008 - 8:12 PMThank you for adding your opinion and suggesting other Witbiers!! :)
Now see, I was of the similar opinion about "Blue Moon"....I was stoked to try it and I even had it with a nice lunch AT "The Blue Moon" Cafe here in Ft Lauderdale...and I was a little disappointed, I felt the same way you did about Shock Top...meh...I even tried a few more times afterwards after purchasing it from the Super Market too...eh, it was good/decent..but not that great
i will definitely be on the look out for the other two you mentioned for sure -

Tue, June 2, 2009 - 7:10 AMHey guys. I do like Shock Top. I actually think it has a stronger citrus kick than Hoegarden but Hoegarden is better all around taste. If you want the best wheat beer around, you need to try Ommegang Witte! It is my absolute favorite.
