Fri, July 27, 2007 - 11:40 AMLove, Love, LOVE me some Chimay. Personally I prefer the 7% version. I *believe* that is the one with the red label. -

Re: Chimay
Mon, July 30, 2007 - 6:22 PMi think they are all three terrific!
but part of that might be nostalgia.
Chimay blue was one of the first far out beers i had that really started my on the path to beer snobdom.
Back when i drank lots of guiness and becks bombers and thought I drank 'good beer'.

Re: Chimay
Mon, July 30, 2007 - 9:16 PMSwill and swine will never find it's way into a conversation with Chimay unless one is comparing it to english pub ale. I still have the bottle of Chimay Rouge that opened me up to beer snobdom. Duvel started it for me when I had it in Amsterdam and Chimay brought me to a whole new level on my 21st birthday. i recently had white in Brussels and was not dissapointed. Chimay does it all, dubbel, triple and of course the dark, delicious blue. There aRe many beers that can compete with Chimay, but the latter sets a nice benchmark for what traditional trappist/abbey ales should be. To disgrace Shakespeare and laud Chimay, "If Chimay be the fruit of love, than drink on." -

Thu, December 6, 2007 - 7:01 AMI am in love with the red label and well lets face it all three are pure beauty in a bottle. but if i had to choose between the three id choose the red. lol i have whored it out to friends, neighbors, and my father in law. I have turned at least 15 people into beer snobs with the cunning use of Chimay and I am giving the gift packs out for xmas!
viva la chimay

Re: Chimay
Thu, December 6, 2007 - 8:24 AMChimay used to be the cream of the Belgian crop, but somewhere abouts 1998-1999 or so the changed how they were brewing and their beer just hasn't been the same. The Cing Cents was my favorite.

Tue, December 18, 2007 - 12:44 AMThe Red bottle is still one of if not the BEST ale on the planet. Sometimes I trey not to like it so much, in my mind and then when the glass of perfection connects to my lips all denial is over !

Re: Chimay
Tue, December 18, 2007 - 2:13 PMIt's decent. In SF for MacWorld a couple of years ago, I ended up at a Apple party at Tres Agaves. I was surprised to find Chimay rogue on tap (although served in inappropriate tall skinny glasses). I got into a discussion with another guy at the bar about where else in the US you might find Chimay from de vat. He pulled out his blackberry and punched up a friend in the beer business who informed that one container load of Chimay kegs is imported into the US each year.

Wed, January 16, 2008 - 10:56 AMNectar of the Gods, brewed by Trappist monks, and it comes with its own cork! Fit for kings, popes or other dignitaries.
I have a bad reaction to champagne, so every New Year's Eve party I bring a bottle of Chimay. This year when I showed up at my annual party, I brought my usual bottle of Chimay, and found that I had started a new tradition. Eight other people had brought Chimay bottles with them!

Re: Chimay
Thu, May 15, 2008 - 4:51 PMChimay is fantastic, but no nectar of gods. It's more of a mainstream beer. A gateway brew to a world of much better beverages. -
